Family Saturday Program:
Family Portraits
(Noon - 2:00)
Children will collaborate on a variety of murals relating to the ideas of family, home, and cultural roots, all connecting back to the theme of "Life in Flight." They will be free to move from mural to mural and decorate them as they wish. This exercise mirrors the experience of constantly being uprooted, but also highlights the significance of the brief but memorable human connections and relationships we make along the way in our lives.
Kites of Hope
(Noon - 2:00)
Nothing says summer like kite-flying. Whether it's your first time or a family tradition, we invite you to come fly with us!
Castles in the Clouds
(2:00 - 3:00)
With the help of family and staff, children will attempt to build the biggest castle they can, using only paper and tape. The twist: It has to be done in complete silence! This fun and hands-on activity attempts to re-create the challenge faced by many refugees and immigrants of having to overcome a language and communication barrier, while also encouraging children to create! A Crayola gift package will be awarded to the best looking castle or tower at 3:00.
Fly Away Home
(2:00 - 3:00)
Continuing with the theme of flight, check out our paper plane workshop to learn how to make your very own. Then test them out on our target range!
Showcase Your Face
(Noon - 3:00)
Transform into a big brave lion, a scary spider, or anything our talented artists and their fun imaginations have to offer at our face-painting station!
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAALLL!!!!:
(Noon - 3:00)
What better way to enjoy the beautiful Summer weather than a friendly game of soccer ?
A friendly game of Monkey Soccer and Three-Team Soccer! Staff will introduce your children to these hilarious new sports, and finish off with a fun and non-competitive soccer match. Children will be asked to rotate on and off the field to allow equal amount of playing time for everyone.
A Family Quilt
(1:30 - 4:00)
Enjoy a reading of Patricia Polacco's award-winning story, The Keeping Quilt. This wonderful and touching story tells about a beautiful family heirloom as it's passed down six generations, and shows the importance of family traditions. Afterwards, the children will work together to create a quilt symbolizing their love for their family.
