Mulambo Group / Bavia Arts
Mulambo is a no-body, perhaps scruffy from hard living conditions or simply by choice of simplicity. There are no pretentions being a Mulambo, but he may bring unfathomable experiences in his bag of tricks, enchantment and deep grooves in the body with roots clearly anchored in Africa but the head facing a future where all share the same world. -Mulambo Groove brings the magic of Brazilian folklore onto the stage exploring old and modern sounds that merge into a mostly authentic and alive sound. Emerging singer-song writer Peirson Ross described Mulambo Groove?s music as ?the real thing?. Embracing the past of obscure musical traditions originated from Brazil?s unique cultural breeding ?hotspot?, is the inspiration for Luciano Porto?s arrangements and original compositions. This results in music that is uniquely and excitingly new, yet at times ancient in sound. The texture of instruments from ancient African and Brazilian traditions added by constant movement on stage makes Mulambo Groove?s show as interesting and pleasant to the ears as the eyes and you are bound to get moving your bones. Mulambo Groove initiated as the work of four brothers together. The project officially started in early 2005 based on compositions by Luciano Porto. Since then the band has developed and changed with time but the repertoir and Luciano's vision remains. Among Mulambo Groove's performing experiences are the Harbour Front Centre's "Hot Spot", Allende Festival of the Arts, Brazil Fest, Gladstone World, Beat Migration, Kensignton's Pedestrian Sundays and several outdoor and indoor events in Ontario, Quebec and the US.
